A. Happy New Year! - Time To Change Your Passwords
The start of a new year is a good time to change your passwords, making sure you create strong ones that will be less vulnerable to hackers. Why bother? Because a stolen password leads to identity theft, the fastest growing crime in the U.S. and the top complaint filed with the FTC for the past seven years. A hacker could open new accounts and max out your credit limit, change your mailing address and have items (and bills) sent to them, or take out a loan in your name.
Given the importance of passwords, it makes sense to spend a little extra time on their development:
* Make it lengthy. Each character added to your password increases the protection. It should be at least 8 characters in length; where possible,
14 characters or longer is ideal.
* Combine letters, numbers, and symbols. The greater variety of characters, the harder it is to guess.
* Use a sentence as the starting point. Think of a memorable sentence, take the first letter of each word, then mix up lower case and upper case, and replace some letters with numbers and symbols.
* Avoid sequences or repeated characters.
* Don't use dictionary words.
Once you've created a new password, find out just how strong it is by visiting Microsoft Corp.'s Password Checker:

B. PressEnter News
PressEnter's technicians Are always happy to help you answer questions about your Internet service. Here are a few of the common questions answered by our technical staff via email to <helpdesk@pressenter.com>:
Question: I received a message, which seems to indicate that I sent an email that was undeliverable. I never sent the original message.
Can you tell me what is happening here?
Answer: It is a common ploy used by Spammers to cover their tracks.
As with US Postal Mail, anyone can send a letter and write in your address as the sender. If a letter carrier cannot deliver the letter, it is returned to you, the forged sender.
Likewise, if an email is sent with your address forged, as the sender cannot be delivered, an automated Delivery Status Notification message is returned to you.

Question: The whole left column with the list of Windows Mail (or Outlook
Express) folders (sent mail, deleted items, etc.) no longer appears on my screen. How do I restore that missing column so I can review messages I've sent?
Answer: In Windows Mail or Outlook Express, click on the View menu at the top. Select Layout and make sure "Folder List" is checked.
Click Ok and it should be back to normal.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
Question: If I have a specific address that I no longer want to receive email from, how do I stop mail from coming in?
Answer: If it's someone you know, or if it's a legitimate sender, the best thing to do would be to contact them directly and ask to be removed from their mailing list. Some email clients can be configured to filter on message characteristics, such as sender address. In Outlook Express, this can by done by opening the Message menu and choosing "Block Sender..."

We hope that you find this information useful. Remember, our helpdesk technical staff are just a phone call or email message away!
C. Ask The Help Desk - How Do I Delete Many E-mail Messages At The Same Time?
Question: Some time ago I found out how to use keys to select a number of e-mails to remove them all at once instead of one at a time. Now I don't remember how this is done. Can you remind me? I have Outlook Express 6 and use Windows XP Home Edition for my operating system.
Answer: If you want to delete groups of e-mail messages that are listed all together, click on the first message in the group of e-mail messages you want to delete to highlight it. Now hold down the "Shift"
key and select the last message in the group that is to be deleted. All messages between and including the first and last messages selected will be highlighted. Then simply hit the "Delete" button on the Outlook Express toolbar. All of the highlighted messages will be deleted.
